Moderation and Appeals
How ordinary discussion publishes and concerning content is reviewed.
Last updated: 9 September 2026.
Our approach
Our approach is to publish ordinary, relevant case discussion promptly and review exceptions. It draws on the broad pattern of YouTube’s Basic comment setting, which holds potentially inappropriate material, spam, self-promotion and gibberish for review. 1BritsPOV uses its own rules and moderation tools; it does not use or claim access to YouTube’s moderation technology. YouTube: comment settings.
Automated rules can miss harmful content or flag legitimate discussion. We combine checks, user reports and administrator review. A trusted-contributor designation recognises a history of constructive participation; it does not exempt someone from the rules.
What can happen
- Published: the contribution is visible on the relevant case.
- Held: it is awaiting review because a rule found a possible concern, such as a blocked phrase, suspicious destination, repeated content or personal information.
- Rejected: it was not published because it failed a safety or validity check. The author may revise suitable material or request review.
- Temporarily hidden: content is unavailable while reports or a serious concern are assessed. This is a precaution, not a finding of wrongdoing.
- Removed or restored: an administrator has reached or revised a decision.
We may limit posting, mute or suspend an account, or ban serious or repeat abuse. Decisions consider context, severity, reliability of evidence, history and the effect on people. A report count alone is not proof: repeated or severe reports can trigger temporary protection, followed by review. We look for malicious or coordinated reporting and do not reward it.
Prohibited material includes harassment, hate, threats, doxxing, exploitation, unsafe or unlawful links, impersonation and scams. Spam, flooding, gibberish and repeated promotion may be held or rejected. Research context and civil disagreement are considered before deciding whether a rule has been broken.
Reports and personal controls
Signed-in visitors can use the report control and select a reason: harassment or hate; threats or immediate safety; privacy or doxxing; sexual or exploitative material; spam or malicious link; impersonation; rights concern; or another explained issue. Email 1britspov@gmail.com if you cannot use the form or do not have an account. Include the page or contribution identifier and enough context to find the issue, without copying harmful personal data.
Use user mute/block controls where provided to manage what you see. They do not make public posts private or prevent someone using a logged-out browser. Serious concerns should also be reported. Immediate danger belongs with the appropriate emergency service; the site is not monitored continuously.
Human review and appeals
Email 1britspov@gmail.com or use an available appeal form. Give the decision or content identifier, the outcome you seek and why you think we missed relevant context. You can appeal a removal or restriction, or complain that reported material remains available. No legal terminology is needed.
We aim to acknowledge complaints and appeals within three working days and decide straightforward appeals within 14 days. We will provide an update if a review takes longer and prioritise urgent concerns. Mathew Luby is the site’s administrator, so an appeal may be reconsidered by the same person. We will reassess the evidence, explain the outcome where lawful and safe, and correct mistakes. These service aims do not replace applicable privacy-request deadlines.
We retain a proportionate audit trail of the rule or report involved, decision, time and administrator action. We may withhold details that expose a reporter, enable circumvention or create further harm. Privacy complaints and rights requests follow the Privacy Notice’s separate requirements. An appeal does not limit your rights to seek external advice or use a regulator or court process where available.
Standalone sighting review
A review status alone does not publish a sighting. With the author’s publication permission, the administrator reviews and edits a public version before releasing it as an unverified Community sighting or a labelled user-submitted archive case. An approved version may be released immediately or through the weekly publication queue. Weekly scheduling does not replace review. Authors can remove permission or withdraw their submission in My account. Each public report and user-submitted case includes a Report a concern email link that can be used without an account.
