Corrections and Source Updates

Evidence-led publishing means changing the record when the evidence warrants it. We welcome factual corrections, stronger sources, broken-link reports, omitted competing explanations and privacy concerns.

Submit an update

Use the case’s correction or source-link form after signing in, or email 1britspov@gmail.com. Include the case URL, the wording or field concerned, the change you propose, and the source that supports it. A page number, timestamp, author and publication date help. Explain whether you were involved in the event or source. You do not need an account to send a concern by email.

Do not send confidential records, identity documents or sensitive personal details unless we have agreed an appropriate way to receive necessary information. Release one accepts text and safe links, not direct media uploads. A new sighting submitted for consideration is not automatically added to the published case database or globe.

How we assess it

We review the original context, provenance and date of the source; distinguish first-hand documentation from retellings; and check whether it actually supports the proposed claim. An official publication is evidence of what that body published, not a guarantee that every interpretation is correct. A Wikipedia page can identify leads but should, where possible, be followed back to its cited records.

A credible unresolved disagreement may be explained in the case rather than resolved by editorial assertion. We do not label a claim established merely because it has many votes or views. Withheld or inadequate location information stays unplotted; an update must not expose a private location or manufacture precision.

Decisions and records

We aim to acknowledge substantive requests within three working days and update you if review takes longer. Outcomes may include a correction, additional source, contextual note, removal, or a reasoned decision to retain the text. Material changes should carry a dated note describing what changed and why. Minor spelling or formatting corrections may be made without a prominent notice.

We will not publicly credit you by name without checking your preference. You may ask for reconsideration with new evidence. Privacy, copyright and moderation concerns use their related policies, and their applicable rights or deadlines are not replaced by this editorial process.
