What was reported?
The Tunguska devastation is understood as a large natural cosmic airburst over Siberia. The remaining scientific questions concern the incoming object and explosion details, not whether a supernatural event is required.
Witnesses reported a brilliant fireball and powerful blast on 30 June 1908. A remote forest region was flattened. Scientific expeditions reached it years later and mapped extensive fallen trees, with some trunks standing nearer the centre.

Evidence in the record
The tree-fall pattern, eyewitness accounts and blast modelling support an explosion above ground. The lack of a large impact crater is consistent with atmospheric disruption. NASA’s historical account describes an asteroid airburst as the prevailing explanation.
